You can find excellent guides online; my advice, though, is to just practice, practice, practice. It's really not that hard, and it worked for me!
If you're willing to trace FiM stuff specifically, you can use 's guides. Also, choose a software to use (Photoshop, Inkscape, Illustrator...) and stick to that one until you master it.
And finally, post your work and don't be afraid of taking criticism; that really helps a lot in your work. Don't be ever discouraged and do what you feel like doing.
I wish I could be more helpful, but truth be said, I am myself a newbie at this. If you need a tip, anyway, don't hesitate and throw me a note! I also happen to be using Photoshop, so maybe I can offer a bit of advice.
